Steel-Plastic Geogrid Strip Extrusion Line: Complete Guide
Steel-plastic composite strips combine the tensile strength of high-tensile steel wire with the corrosion resistance of HDPE coating. They are the primary reinforcement material in steel-plastic geogrids used for road construction, slope stabilization, and heavy-load applications.
This guide covers the specifications and configuration of a steel-plastic strip extrusion line.
Core Specifications
| Parameter | Specification |
|---|---|
| Extruder | Ø90mm single screw, 30:1 L/D |
| Screw material | 38CrMoAlA, nitrided |
| Heating | 5-zone ceramic, 20 kW total |
| Extrusion motor | 30 kW |
| Gearbox | ZLYJ225-16 |
| Production speed | 10-60 m/min |
| Strip width | 10-30 mm |
| Wire creel | 40 positions |
| Winder | Double-station, 900mm |
Line Components
- Wire creel: 40-position creel with tension control. Each wire position has individual brake tension to ensure consistent wire tension across all strands.
- Pre-heating: Wires are preheated before entering the extrusion die to improve HDPE adhesion.
- Extruder: Ø90mm, 30:1 L/D with 5-zone ceramic heating. The 30:1 ratio provides better mixing and plasticization than shorter barrels.
- Crosshead die: Precision die that coats each wire with molten HDPE at controlled thickness.
- Cooling bath: 5-meter water bath with temperature-controlled sections.
- Embossing station: Cr12MOV embossing rolls (HRC60) create the surface texture for improved geogrid node bonding.
- Pull rollers: Speed-matched to maintain consistent strip tension.
- Double-station winder: 900mm traverse, automatic changeover.
Electrical & Control
- PLC: Mitsubishi FX series
- HMI: Kunlun Tongtai touchscreen
- Inverter: Delta VFD
- Temperature control: Japan Rika PID (±1°C)
- Low voltage: Schneider / Omron
Quality Indicators
- HDPE adhesion to steel wire: peel test ≥ 50 N/cm
- Strip thickness tolerance: ± 0.1mm
- Strip width tolerance: ± 0.5mm
- Tensile strength: determined by steel wire grade and count
- Output: approximately 10-60 m/min depending on strip size
Market note: Steel-plastic geogrids command a premium price due to their high tensile strength (typically 50-200 kN/m). The strip extrusion line is the most critical quality control point in the production chain. Branded electrical components (Mitsubishi, Delta, Schneider) significantly improve reliability and spare parts availability.
